English Hour
Free English conversation club for speakers of other languages
English Hour welcomes anyone who does not speak English as his or her native language. Whether you come from Asia, Europe, Africa or South America… whether you are a student, a migrant or on holidays in Australia… we would love to meet you!

At English Hour, our goal is to help non-English speakers become more fluent with conversational English. We like to share Australian culture and to learn about other cultures. We want to help visitors to settle into life on the Sunshine Coast, and build life-long friendships.
English Hour meets weekly (4pm Sunday, at Grace Church) to share afternoon tea, have some fun together, and enjoy chatting with each other. Usually we discuss a particular topic - love, work, family etc – things that everyone encounters in life. We share our own experiences and learn from the experiences of others. We also look at what God has to say on the subject, by reading a section of the Bible. For those who would like to learn more about the God, we have Bible studies during the week.
At other times throughout the year we have special activities where we can get to know each other better, and just have lots of fun!! We might go bushwalking, camping or canoeing. Many times we just get together for a meal… every culture loves to eat!!
Here are few things some of our international friends have to say about their English Hour experience:
“I’ve got a big Aussie family here!!! Even though I already left there, I really feel it and I miss them heaps!!! The time I spent at English Hour is unforgettable and totally priceless.” Azusa, Japan.
“It was one of the best experiences in Australia last year to be at the English Hour. I've met such good, warm people and that made me feel comfort for the time being. I appreciate everything my friends did for me, and now I am trying to take care of other people back in Korea”. Kimberly, Korea
“G’day mate! I’m Lim Soo from Korea. I’ve been to Australia for learning English in 2006. I thought the most important thing in Australia was to get a good English skill. Then I came to the Grace Church. I recognized there were many people who would be friends. Don’t put all your effort into text books! I met many good friends in my life and I still keep in touch with them. There is the love of people. There is the love of God. I was not a Christian. I am not sure if I am a Christian now, but I am trying to be, because I love words from the Bible and I feel the love of God. God bless you!” Lim Soo, Korea
“It was a great experience to be at English Hour. As a German catholic it was very interesting for me to see how non-catholic people discover and worship god. It was always a warm and friendly atmosphere in which it was possible to talk about God or other things in life. It was also a very pleasant experience to be with all the other international students on a Sunday afternoon.” Matthias, Germany
